Angry Birds themed pumpkins

My girlfriend's brother goes over the top each year with the pumpkin carving. This year he did something I thought you all would enjoy. Of course now that this is out there someone will come up with Angry Pumpkins for the BlackBerry.

And of course you can pick up both the real Angry Birds, the BlackBerry copy Angry Farm, or thousands of other apps on Mobspot.

Donate a Dollar for Steve

Like the rest of the world the team at Mobspot was sad to hear of Steve Jobs passing today. He lived a great life and touched many, many lives not just his vision but his ability to buy into his vision. We often say around here that ideas are a dime a dozen, and great ideas a quarter a dozen, but neither are worth a damn without execution - and the ability to execute on a vision is why Steve stood out amongst CEOs. He spoke with such belief and charisma in what he was doing that each and every individual on his team bought into his vision and worked towards making it a reality, and from Main Street to Wall Street people hung on his every world as he described to him how their latest innovation would change their lives.

Like the rest of you my facebook, twitter and other news feeds have been on fire with the news of Steve Jobs death. People talking about not just mourning his passing and feeling for his friends and family but actually breaking down and physically crying for a man they've never met. That thought really resonated with me and while driving home from kickboxing this evening I was thinking you know, this man has really touched a LOT of people, and maybe it's possible to use that to make something bright out of a dark moment, one last capstone on the legacy of a man that has left behind one hell of a legacy.

Think about this for a second. Apple has sold over 250 million iOS devices. To be sure a ton of those were sold to people who didn't give two thoughts about Steve Jobs, in fact they probably don't even know who he is and only know that their device provides some utility to them. But, what if just 10% of those consumers were so touched by the man behind the devices that they donated just one dollar to cancer research. Just a simple buck, one hundred pennies (you know, those bronze things they give you as change that you think nothing of and likely have sitting in a jar somewhere), less than half the cost of a daily cup of coffee. That's $25 million right there. What if half of that 10% gave two dollars? Now we're up to $37.5 million additional dollars going to cancer research that weren't there yesterday - and that's just on 10% of the consumers.

So, it's up to you the people now. Can we start a movement and let Steve's legacy shine on? I've put together a short list of cancer charities below, it's up to you to decide if you can part with $1. If you do decide to donate send out a tweet with #donateadollarforsteve. With any luck and a lot of love come midday tomorrow we'll see #donateadollarforsteve trending on twitter.

@bberrymobspot App Review - BeBuzz

Mobspot superfan and uberpassionate about all things mobile @bberrymobspot sent us a new review, and of course we'll oblige his request and post. Below is his review with only minor edits. If you'd like to read his take on Personal Assistant and Groupon let your mouse do the walking.

****************************

Are you tired of that boring flashing red LED light on your BlackBerry? Well I have a solution for you. Our newest entry in the BberryMobspot reviews is BeBuzz.

BeBuzz is one of the most popular paid apps within Blackberry's AppWorld. I do not think that I have ever seen it outside of the top 10 paid apps, and once you try it out you will know why. BeBuzz is the app which allows the user to change the color of their LED for pretty much anything on their BlackBerry from specific contacts to Facebook and Twitter.

BeBuzz is one of the first apps that I always suggest to new or inexperienced BlackBerry users. This is a great way to organize your life in the simplest of ways. If you are expecting a call or email from a specific person you can put your mind at ease and just keep an eye out for the specific LED color. The best part is all of the color options that are available. The colors range from blue, yellow, pink and everything in-between.

Even though the initial price of the app is a bit steep at $5.99 there is a free version available if you want to take it for a spin before you settle in for the long haul. If you want to check BeBuzz or BeBuzz Free click the appropriate link.

Tablet computer survey

This year is a big year for tablet PCs - Blackberry's PlayBook finally hit the market after months of hype, a few Android devices are out there with MANY more coming, HP is even bringing a webOS device to market. The big unknown is whether consumers that don't already use a Blackberry/webOS/other device will actually purchase a tablet on that platform. To me it seems as if the average consumer were to choose between any of the devices they'd choose the iPad, all else being equal. Will the other devices be niche players in the bigger market, with the only significant sales coming from their current user base, or will they be able to chip away at Apple's everyman lead?

Curious about you guys, passionate mobile users and early adopters that you are, thus the survey. All responses are anonymous, of course. Couldn't get the embed option working so click the below link to take the quick (~1minute max) survey.

Thank you RIM. We'll get our app on the Playbook asap!

In the meantime, here are a few photos. First impressions: Well built. Right size. Intuitive UX. App management is great. Where's the Facebook app?

Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 12 released for iPhone, iPad

I don't usually blog about new app launches - and quite frankly my recent history shows I don't blog much at all (sadly with doing everything else it gets neglected) - but had to mention the new Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 12 for a few reasons

1) The graphics and gameplay are better than they were on the PC version I bought a few years back
but more interestingly
2) The app is releasing prior to the console version in Europe.

#2 is likely due to the shipping time differences from the US as it launches on consoles in the US today, but could it foreshadow a time in the not-so-distant future when mobile is used as a platform to vet out games worth contributing the time/budget to for a console version? The iPhone has already become the proving ground for new apps, if it takes off there it gets released for the other platforms (or cloned in the case of Angry Farm/Angry Birds) so why not? Also, how long until the mobile versions tie into the console version?

Anyways, watch the vid below, and of course get the Tiger Woods the full version, HD for iPad or demo version on Mobspot!
